Wheels Off Road

How do I choose alloy wheels for my car?

I'm considering in buying some new alloy wheels off the Internet for my car. But, if I bought some, is it as easy as just taking the old wheels off and putting the new ones on? Do I have to be careful what size wheels to choose? I would like to get 17" alloys, but unsure. I have a 1995 Golf GTI and no modifications. Thanks!

  1. go to tirerack.com and you can see what the wheels will look like on you car
  2. one helpful website that will answer most of your questions is tirerack.com if you go to that website and enter in all your information (year, make and model of vehilcle) it will show you which vehicles fit properly onto your car, and even what will look like with a computer simulated image of those wheels and your car. its pretty fun
  3. See what fits your car. They must be speed balanced as all alloy rims at a tire dealer.
  4. What you need to make sure of when buying new wheels for your car... The bolt pattern is 5 x 100, and the ET (back spacing) is 35. I have had 17's with up to a 40mm ET on mine. Mine is lowered, so you won't have any issues since yours isn't modified. If you do plan on lowering it later (before you decide you want different wheels) put a 205-40 tire on them. If not you should be okay with a 215 to 225/45 tire.
  5. you can log onto: www.tirerack.com The Tire Rack www.tires.com Discount Tire Co. www.bigotires.com Big O Tires All of these sites are definately safe, and they have all the info that you will need in order to make the right decision. Good luck!
