Wheels Off Road

can i change racer wheels for off road wheels ?

I have a Giant mountain bike with racer wheels on and would like to change them for off road ones. Is it possible to change front forks, rims and tyres? if so how do i go about it and do you know how much it would cost? thanks for any input. xxx

1. Cheapest and fastest way to do this is to just change the tires.You can do this yourself in under 30 minutes.All you need is a couple of tire levers.And a pump.
2. Your question makes no sense. Mountain bike 'racer' wheels ARE off road wheels.
3. if it is an MBT like you say then you just need to change the tyres but...you cant put racer wheels on an MTB if you tell us the bike you have then maybe we would have a better idea and could possibly tell you the size of tyre that will fit you can get decent quality tyres from about £16+

5. When you say "racer wheels" do you in fact mean "slick tyres" that is tyres that are smooth and designed for road use? And do you then want to change these for tyres designed for off-road use (ones with knobbly bits)? If so do you want to be able to change between the two sets quickly or is this a one-off change? if it is the first you will need to buy an additional quick release wheel set and that quality depending could set you back quite a bit. If it is the latter that all you need to do is change the tyres, this will cost upwards of £30 ($50) for a pair of new tyres again dependent on quality. If on the other hand you are talking about changing a road bike with 700c wheels for 26" off-road wheels - just don't do it! This may be exactly like the first mountain bikes but the people who built them knew what they were doing.
