Wheels Off Road

Want to put off road tires on my 2003 Z71 Silverado truck, what sizes wheels can I put on without lifting it? I currently have a 2003 z71 silverado with 20 inch rims on it with 285, 50 20 tires but I want a more aggressive look without lifting it, what combination of wheels and tires can I go with without lifting it, I'm looking at maybe 17, 18, 19, and 20 inch rims? My truck is 4 wheel drive too.

For a large 4 wheel drive off road application truck, is it better to have drum or disk brakes? Just trying to decide if I should change over to a disk setup. I know that big industrial trucks such as dump trucks and buses use drum brakes.....and I know that most race cars use disk....for cooling purposes....but the new tundra just came out with 4 wheel disk brakes. Will it make a large difference for me to upgrade? Is it worth the upgrade? How much more useful with this be for me?

I have an Xmod R/C Truck and the off-road upgrade and the wheels shake violently and I can move. Help? I can drive worth s*** because of these damn wheels. I did yet the wheels are loose but it says to not add spacers.

Has anyone experienced front end vibration with a 2001 Dodge 1500 Ram Truck 4WD Off Road suspension? When traveling at 60-70 mph on highway if I hit a bump the front end shakes violently! Once the truck slows below 55 mph the vibration stops and the truck performs normally with no evidence of problem. I was following someone who wittnessed the wheels actually turning back and forth wildly while the steering wheel did not. I actually thought a crash was inevitable but was able to safely slow down till it stopped! After the first time this happened I Took the truck to a Dodge dealer who replaced the tie rod and intermediate shaft. 1 Month later it happened again and once again I took it to dodge who then identified a problem with play in the steering shaft. Dodge has not reported any other similar problems and I hope to hear from someone familier with this issue.

trying to decide on an off road truck? im looking for a good small suv. nothing too expensive but it has to be decent. i need it for college and have 5000 dollars. i go to a college north of where i live so it snows so i.. well i dont want to say need, but want something with 4 wheel drive. plus it has to have A/C because when im down in the summer its like 100 degrees plus literally 24/7 all summer. i was looking at a 95 toyota prerunner. its a small suv so i can carry my friends along as well as my junk when i go camping or take road trips. im also looking for the car to have 130k miles on it or less. i know a bit about cars but i dont want to go rebuild a engine or tranny. i want a reliable small suv that will do its job with as little maitence as possible ( oil change tires belts fluids are madatory, dropping an engine or changing bearings not good) so i just want ideas of the perfect car for me, like suggestions, i was looking at prerunners, cherokees, and range rovers. feel free to suggest more or help me pick the best out of those three, keep in mind the 5000 or less and 130k miles or less.

Does anyone know where do get a tool box comparable to a truck trunk? I have an '06 Nissan Titan and I am looking at the new GMC for better gas mileage, better paint and overall long-term reliability. I have the truck trunk tool box and they appear to have gone out of business. Is there anything comporable. Also, I am very undecided about the trucks, anyone own either one and have any good advice for me. My nissan only has about 8K miles. Information about pulling a truck.? We are moving from Florida to Oklahoma and we plan on renting a moving truck,like uhaul.I would like to tow my F150 so we dont have to pay for 2 gas bills Uhaul says my trucks is to wide for the tow dolly and wouldn't fit on the one that gets all four wheels off the road.My truck is stock so I dont understand why but either way,I need to try and find a place that would rent a moving truck and or just a towing trailer. I have tried Budget,Penske,Uhaul and Ryder. Does anyone know of a place that would have a trailer I could rent one way? I dont think uhual will allow us to install a towing bar. Moving is not by choice my husband is in the Army and thats his first duty station. Trust me I'd rather be in hurricane alley at least we know a few days to a week they are coming. OFF road tires on 2WD expedition? Hi!! 4x2 Off-roading? Anybody do off-roading in a rear-wheel only truck? Anybody have experience in off-roading in a RWD-only truck? What kind of modifications did you perform? How much did it cost? Whats the best way to remove vinyl stripes on a International truck? I am trying to remove Vinyl stripes off of an over the road truck. It has two large stripes on the fiberglass hood and back the sides of the metal cab and sleeper. I have been using a heat gun and also tried the eraser wheels on a DA sander. I also tried 3m graphic remover. They all work but are very time consuming. I want to try and not ruin the paint. Anybody know a faster and more effective way?

can you off road in a 2009 chevy silverado? due to it being a truck being bigger and raised compared to most cars and this truck has bigger wheels and is slightly raised does it mean you can basically go over a lot more curbs and go over stuff compared to say a car laying low

Off Road enthusiasts: Any Sugestions on tire pressure for Remington Mud Brute 305/70 R17? I upgraded from the stock 275/60 R17 Goodrich Long Trail to these off road tires on an '00 Expedition Eddie Bauer. The truck stands 2" taller than before, I had to insert some spreaders on the front springs so the tires wouldn't hit the wheel well. I mainly use the truck on highway but it feels not as agile, and ride is a litle rougher. Any suggestions. Will tire pressure make any difference

Creating a truck from a van = senior project? Thinking about buying an E-250 and taking part of the roof off and turning it into a pickup. Right now it's configured to cargo, so I want to cut it right behind the rear windows turning the rest into a truck bed and adding a reclining seat to the rear cabin part. Or maybe moving the double doors to the rear of the new cabin and putting two captain's chairs. Something like that. Also lifting the van a few inches and adding bigger wheels and off-road tires. I'm wondering if this is a feasible idea and would be an effective way to learn trade skills like basic engineering, welding, and mechanics; and if it would be something that I could do without running into a ton of problems. I'm pretty sure the most electrical I could run into would be wires from a controller to the rear lights, and the inside's just open frame and sheet metal, but I could be wrong. Anyways, just wondering what everyone things. In response to buying a flatbed, that would require me buying materials for the bed, plus a flatbed would have less room in the van, and the bed would be too high. Part of the van idea would be that even after the lift, by design, the bed would be lower to the ground. I could carry things like the scissor lift I'm looking at or a lawnmower without having an extremely long and heavy duty ramp.

What chevy truck should I buy? Its between a Chevy s10 4x4 and a Chevy s10 zr2. The truck has to be a 4 wheel drive as I go off roading often. But the thing is the Zr2 pickup is really hard to find, and the reg. s10 4x4 without the off road package is whole lot easier to find. Is it worth waiting what could be months untill i find the right zr2 or just buy a s10 4x4 tomorrow?

Why can't you drive an ATV on a public road? In most states. What if your ATV had lights, mirrors, and turn signals then why is it illegal? Trucks and cars can go off roads and damage property. Why is it OK to drive a 2 wheeler like a motorcycle than a 4 wheeler (ATV)??? Motorcycles are more dangerous because they have 2 wheels. Why ? Why ? Why? What about in the state of Minnesota -it's illegal. I'm talking about modified ATV with brakes, helmet (DOT) approved, horns, and all those stuff.

Off-road 1997 S-10 need advice!!!? My strictly offroad s10 has five lug hubs, i bought 33x15.5x15 super swampers for it. the swampers came on 6 lug chevy wheels. since the s-10 rims are only 10 in. wide i don't think i should use them, that being said i need a way to put the tires on. a know i can get wheel adapter/spacers but they are like 400 for a set. I only paid 275 for the truck and want to get the tires on without spending a ton. Any suggestions? It has independent front suspension, i have been told putting a straight axle under it and lifting it with blocks could solve my problem too but i still have the 5 to 6 lug problem. I don't know what to do. any suggestions would be helpful. It doesn't have a lift kit but i am going to cut the fenders out once i figure out the best way to get the tires on.

Truck trade in? Hi, I currently have an 04 Nissan Titan King Cab, its got a billet grill, over size off road tires and premium wheels, 3in lift, gas mileage is not bad, I was thinking about trading it for an 07 Chevy Avalanche with the flex fuel option and more or less the same features as my Titan. What's causing the whining noise coming from the driver's side rear wheel of my '98 Jetta? There's a whining noise coming from the driver's side rear wheel of my '98 VW Jetta. The sound is like that of a truck with off-road tires driving down a paved road. The tire has been replaced within the last 6 months and hasn't lost any air. I seem to recall that my mechanic tightened something in the axel about a 18 months ago, but I'm not sure what it was. He said that it's a common thing to wear out on VW's. Please let me know what the problem is and if it's worth fixing or if it's time to move on to another car. Thanks for your help.

06 chevy silverado traction problems. 1 wheel spins when traction is needed, and wont peel out >_<? when i am off roading, i got a problem with 1 wheel spinning when both are needed (yeah-yeah... offroading in a 2wd...). i know i need a locker, but not sure exactly what i need for a good on and off road truck. also, when i want to peel out, it wont... it's a v6, so that may be an issue, but it may be software for traction control, which i don't want.... was kinda embarassing, i tried to peel out, in front of some friends, had E-brake on, and in overdrive, but wheels wouldn't spin....... so yeah, what all do i need to solve this?

2008 chevy silverado wheels? I really want these wheels for my truck made by Gear Alloy called the 722C. I am undecided about what size will look better the 22x10 or 20x10. The tricky thing is that the wheels have a negative 25 offset. How much of a lift will I need and what size tires should I put on. How many American jobs will be lost to overseas outsourcing before our goverment decides to regulate it? I'm an engineer. I was employed at a rather large company that manufactures heavy duty off road vehicles, (Wheel Loaders and Excavators and such). Recently, I've lost my job because the "higher ups" in my company decided to cut costs. They hired an engineer from India to replace me at a fraction of the cost of my wage. I'm middle class and when I see these people with six figure incomes it makes me question their true worth? They will argue that it's actually positive for our the company and our ecomony, but as I sit here typing this, (unemployed), I wonder....who are the ones benefitting? I am unemployed. I don't build bulldozers any longer but they are still being built. These bulldozers clear the land for the house that I can no longer afford. The carpenter, plumber, electrician, etc. don't have a job because the house was never built. They don't have to buy tools anymore either. The trucks that deliver those tools will be parked. I wish I could type more, but you get the point!

My 91 Ford Ranger died because it over heated in reverse then the engine stopped talking to the wheels why? I got stuck in the mud and got out of the thick stuff and finally when I could see the road again I wasn’t going any farther! I knew the truck was over heating but I didn’t want to get caught off road! Then finally the truck died. I opened up the hood and the radiator overflow was bubbling so I pulled the tube to relieve some pressure, when the liquid was skin burning hot I plugged the tube back in and added some water and anti freeze and then started her up. She started right up, and then I put it in gear and nothing, darn I thought I’m still stuck. I hung my head out the door and sure enough the wheels weren’t moving either way... What should I do? Fix it but how much? Sell it? No one’s going to want to buy a 91 ford ranger that doesn’t work. What’s the cheapest thing I can do just to get her to get me to work and back, no more off roading. I added anti-freeze and water about a gal. And the temp gage and engine seem cooler it not over heating but the engine still doesn’t talk to the wheels. PS after I did that stuff before it wasn’t over heating or anything like that. Why trans fluid? I didnt release any trans fluid OK i got one responce any one else people? A little help here!

Passing on doulble yellow lines in ohio law? When I was traveling on the road, there were double lines on the road. The garbage truck was going approx. 10 m.p.h. in front of me . I am driving and have about 1,400 lbs. of feed on my pick-up truck. Then the trash truck drove his right side wheels off to the right side of the road on the road with his yellow caution flashers on. So I checked for any oncoming traffic - all was clear - and I turned on my left signal and proceeded to pass about 35 m.p.h. There were double yellow lines but I could see far enough ahead to see that all was clear. Then the trash truck turned left in my passing path without using his turn signals - shoving my pick-up truck through a fence on someone's property on left side of the road. My truck was totaled. My right side of pick-up truck front wheel snapped off and broken off. I have witness that lives close by and saw the accident and he said that trash truck did not turn on his turn signals. I was charged with "improper passing" . Who's fault? But the trash truck stopped on the road before turn in front of me

does anyone know the law about having a vehicle 6" off the ground? the reason i ask i have just bought a car with mot but no tax im still waiting for my insurance to arrive but in the meantime i am unable to tax it through no fault of my own as i live in atower block and dont gave anywhere off road to keep the vehicle.if i put both the back wheels up on bricks is this classed as off the road?as i saw a truck in a layby with one of its back wheels up on bricks it had no tax and was left alone until the owner collected it.

Why does my truck still wobble/shake even after I changed the tires? I know nothing about auto repair so I will make this as detailed as possible. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger with roughly 170k miles on it. When I first bought it I noticed a little wobble/shake in it as I drove. I just chalked that up to the vehicle needing an alignment (it still might I haven't had it aligned). It got progressively worse until my dad and brother suggested I replace the front tires. I did so which helped some but it still shimmies/wobbles pretty badly. Dad has suggested changing the rear tires now, but I want some information before doing that. Usually when taking off slowly the truck will wobble pretty badly, and then when going around 60 it will shimmy. Now the shimmy isn't always the same, sometimes it's bad sometimes it isn't. It also is dependent on what road I am driving on. Some roads cause it to shake really badly, some don't. It doesn't pull left or right and there is no detectable play in the steering wheel. Otherwise it drive fine. Anyone have any thoughts?

When can police impond/tow a vehicle. Can police tow your car off of private property? What do I do now? Last week I am driving to a friends house and decide to pass a vehicle on a two lane road. I am happy officer gave back car, even at cost of 60 dollars. Officer acted like he was doing us a favor releasing a car... I'm guessing this guy called back and was told to release car cause he was out of line... (who knows)I'm displeased that I was threatened that I would be cited/arrested/ he could come to my workplace and have me fired! if I didn't coopertate and tell the officer what I had done (which the only witness was the nut blocking the driveway) and that he yelled at my wife. I included the fact that she was pregnant because she has had problems with pregnancy is nervous and does not need the stress or to be disrepected by someone whose salary i pay via taxes! Look I'm not crazy/stupid and in no way would I try to run off a superduty ford in a car weighing 1500 pounds!!!! Had I not told full story i.e. was drinking etc.. I would have been arrested/car would have been towed! Talked to an attorney. He said officer could have searched/taken car if he believed other driver was at risk, unlikely but officer could have. He said I could have been given a wreckless driving citation if officer had wanted to... Guess I'm just lucky this only cost me 60. I just don't understand why treated so poorly. I hope the police respond as quickly and with as much effort if i am ever in need.

What's the best work truck between the two? 2000-2003 Chevy Silverado V6 or 2004-2008 F-150. I don't want 4 wheel drive and dont care about the years. But which would be best in light off road conditions? And has enough power to have a sudden boost of accel. for example when passing someone? I would like a regular cab. With no options. Just something cheap and efficient

any ideas to why my truck is hard to turn? i have a 1995 chevy cheyenne and just a few months ago the ignition and the power steering fixed. when i'm driving on the road and when i turn the wheel to back up, it backs up and turns perfectly. but, when i put the truck in drive after reversing while im in the road about to drive off, when i turn the wheel the opposite way to start off driving, it is extremely hard to turn, but after i start going, it turns very easily. any ideas what could cause this?

I have got an issue with my car. The wheels shakes..Alignment off..? The other night, I was driving on the interstate. There was a biker that had stopped right in the middle of the lane, and I had to slam on my brakes. Almost hitting a semi truck, and losing control a bit until i finally came to a stop. I never hit anything. Although, now my wheel shakes when I get over 30-40 miles an hour. And my car makes a funny noise, almost like the tire is gonna fall off. Though its not. Also, it feels like I am constantly going over ruts in the road, no matter what speed I am going. I just want some sort of idea what is wrong, so I know where to take it. If any more details are needed, let me know. There isn't any noticeable noise that comes from just turning the wheel. Although, when I take curves, it gets a lot worse. Sometimes its kinda starts to bump? How much does it cost to do the wheel bearing? And what happens if i keep driving on it?

I drive a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD I would to know how to check the balljoints for wear.? I drive a worktruck that has almost 200,000 miles on the truck. I spend about 50 to 60% of the time off road. The reason I was asking is so I can tell my boss about the truck for safety reasons. I want to look at if so I can display what is going on. The steering wheel somes to move freely like it is worn. The wheels seem to make a knocking sound when I turn the wheels. It also seems that the front steering wheel shakes ever so slightly. how do I get compensated for loss caused by negligence on the part of a u-haul rental associate? I rented a U-haul trailer from a U-haul store. I noticed the man was having trouble getting the request to go through on the computer. The U-haul associate put the trailer onto my vehicle(91 GMC jimmy s15). 100 miles down the road the bolts on my drive wheel sheered off, causing my truck to skid sideways into a concrete barrior. my truck was a total loss, as well as most of my belongings. Since, I have looked at their website. The site will not let me reserve that size trailer to be put onto a 91 GMC jimmy s15. When I finaly had time to search through my dischevled belongings I found the recipt. To get the computer to accept the request, the U-haul associate put "91 GMC jimmy (Fullsize)".

GMC question. 2007 Sierra Crewcab 4x4 What changes if you change the original wheels with larger wheels.? GMC 20 inch wheels with 275/55SR20 Goodyear Eagle LS-2 tires transfered from 2007 Sierra 1500 Crewcab 4x4 with SLT trailering package with 3.73 rear end, to a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 crewcab 4x4 with Max trailering package that had 17 inch wheels with Bridgestone Dueler A/T on off road P265/70SR17 tires on it. These tires are original factory installed equipment on respective trucks. Are there suspension differiences which would not allow the swap ? Will it change the towing capacity ? Can the on board computer be programed for the wheel swap ? The GMC answer is generic and noncommital.

Truck shakes when stopping or turning ? 1993 chevrolet k1500 6 inch lift with 33 inch tires the brakes are fine could it be the tie rod ends or the wheel bearings i replaced the upper ball joints and the lower joints are fine its not due to the lift kit because i have never took it off road and was fine when i first bought the truck any one have an answer

How much would you pay for this truck? The truck is a 2006 purchased mid 2005, it is a Nissan Titan 5.6L SE and was purchased brand new. The truck is going on 3 years old and only has 18,440mi on it, it has an after market custom billet grill, flow master exhaust (cat back, 2” pipe with a 3” tip, very loud) and after market ION off-road black on chrome rims. The interior is near perfect with only a little “wear and tare” near the steering wheel controls, and next to the shifter, speaking of which is has full stereo controls on the steering wheel, 6 disc in dash CD player, after market Rockford Fosgate component speakers ($400), automatic control captain’s chair (drive side only). It is also the model with the shifter instead of the steering wheel shift (see photo below). The exterior of the truck is kept in almost mint condition, I wash and wax the car twice a month there are a few little tiny scratches and one super small ding on the passenger door (parking structures…what can you do?). The truck also comes with back-up censors on the rear bumper it has a temperature gauge inside the truck which also tells you which direction you are heading. Kelly Blue Book tells me the truck is worth only $14k which I think is a little low considering at going on 3 years old it only has the miles of a 1 year old car and has been kept in extremely good condition, not to mention all of the after market enhancements. Couple of side notes, it's already my truck I'm looking to sell it within a year or so, another is that only 4x4 trucks are meant to off road in. A 2x4 which is what I own is only meant to be driven around town, etc. One more thing, a lift on a truck is the worst thing you can do to id, after time the weight of the truck sitting on your shocks, axles, and suspension, ruins all of those things making you replace your "lift" every 2-6 years, not worth it if you ask me.

What damage can be done to your car when the wheel falls off? We bought a second hand 5 yr old Commodore station wagon from a car yard & two days later while going around a roundabout the wheel fell off.It dragged the car for a bit on the wheel axle,there was liquid on the road but we were not sure if it was from us.We found out later that they had put Ford nuts on all wheels which were too big hence the wheel fell off,on the way home on the tow truck the others fell off.They are going to fix it but I am unsure as to what damage may have been done to the car & want to make sure they fix any & all problems that may have been caused by it happening, as I now feel unsafe can anyone help with some information?

I just rammed my truck into a cons new cadillac? I was driving my rusty 1982 Ford pickup down the road and I saw this guy in a pinstripe suite, weighs about 250 with chest and stomach stuck out into the tilt stearing wheel, smoking an El Rushbo cigar. Help me find a Nitro R/C Truck? I'm wanting to buy a Nitro R/C Truck for my son for Christmas. Any help/reviews I could get would be great! Looking for a 4-wheel drive; nitro; something pretty durable that can be used off-road; I'm thinking like around 40 mph (doesn't need to be the fastest, but faster than an electric).
